About Sharp Park
Splitting the camp grounds in two is the majestic Coomera River. I have seen the river here in different conditions. I’ve seen it in drought as nothing more than large waterholes (or billabongs) and I’ve seen it in flood gushing with huge amounts of power. Lucky enough, for the most part of the year the river flows gently, creating one of the most enjoyable places for a swim on a hot day you will ever experience.
One time when Jazz and I were at Sharp Park while the river was in flood, one of our dogs ‘Harry’ couldn’t resist himself and chased a duck into the fast flowing river. He was going so fast that he looked like he had an outboard motor strapped on. He was swept a few hundred meters down stream but being a good swimmer, he managed to get himself out. Although we were a little panicked at first, we were able to laugh about it in the end.
When the river is flowing gently, if you are lucky enough and quiet enough at dawn or dusk, you can get a glimpse of a platypus. I have seen a platypus here once.
Facilities
As I mentioned earler, the river splits the campsite into two. On the side that Jazz and I like to stay on there is a toilet block which is kept clean but has no showers.
There are old truck rims placed all over the campsite which are there to light your campfires in. You can buy firewood from the caretakers too. Last time we were there it was $5 for a big bucket of wood which was enough to comfortably last the night.
