Borroloola Rodeo 2016

For the past four years Jazz and I have been in the Borroloola region working every time the rodeo has been on. This year for the first time we were not working over the rodeo weekend.

Borroloola is located about 7 hours South-East of Katherine. And about 10 hours from Darwin.

We booked a night at the Borroloola Caravan Park to stay in a cabin. The cabin was nice. Everything you would expect from a standard cabin at a caravan park.

The rodeo itself was a great experience. Practically the whole town goes down to the rodeo which is located right next to the Borroloola Showgrounds.

The Borroloola Rodeo is run by volunteers and they do a great job.

Even though it is a small, outback rodeo they still put in a great show. We were there all day on the Saturday. The morning started with different junior age groups going around barrels etc. A bit of a slow start, but it was good to see so many kids getting out there having a go.

The bar area opened.

We spent the rest of the day in there drinking XXXX Gold Cans and watching the bull and bronco riders. The show moved along very quickly. I was expecting to have long wait times between events. But that wasn’t the case.

The rodeo attracts riders from near and far. Locals from the Borroloola community had a go a bull riding. And there were riders from heaps of stations from all accross the Northern Territory.

We had a great day and will remember it for a long time. I probably wouldn’t add it to your “must do” list, but if you happen to be touring the top end of Australia at the time, you would be mad not to go there.

I’m pretty sure the Borroloola Rodeo is held the week after the Mt Isa Rodeo each year.
