I guess I’ll start by explaining the name. A few years back all our mates had big fourbies. Nissan Patrols and Toyota Landcruisers. So Jazz named our little Vitara “Ellen” because she wanted to be one of the boys.

Ellen is a Suzuki Grand Vitara. She is only small, but NOTHING like a Rav 4. She is a proper four-wheel-drive including a low range gearbox and a small V6. I’m pretty sure it’s a 2.5 litre. Being a V6 she has that little big extra torque to be able to pull our camper.

It’s only had minor modifications. The tow bar is factory fitted, and I had the suspension in the rear upgraded to stiffer shocks for towing. We have had the windows tinted, which makes country driving a lot more comfortable. It also means the car doesn’t heat up quite as quickly when it’s sitting in the sun.

The latest edition are some nice new all-terrain tyres. Coopers. They are my favourite brand of Australian beer and also my favourite brand of tyres.
